Swimmer Gaurika Singh has been selected for the 16th FINA World Swimming Championship (FWSC).
Similarly, Kiran Karki is also selected for the same tournament, according to the Nepal Swimming Association (NSA).
Singh and Karki were selected based on their performance at the 20th Open National and Age Group Swimming Championship that concluded on Monday in Satdobato Swimming Complex, Lalitpur, said NSA’s president Ashok Bajracharya during the programme organised by the Shanti Education Initiative Nepal to appoint Singh as its goodwill brand ambassador.
Singh had set six national records at the 20th Open National and Age Group Swimming Competition.
The tournament is scheduled to be held in Russia from July 28 to August 8, 2015. The tournament is qualification to the Rio Olympics next year.
Altogether, four swimmers from Nepal will compete in the World Swimming Championship. Swimmers Sirish Gurung and Sophia Shah were already qualified Championship and they are under trainings in Bangkok, Thailand.
Meanwhile, International Swimming Federation has provided US$ 25,000 to NSA for the construction of swimming pool with heating system facility.
