Sankata Club (KTM) has defeated Mechi Netralaya KFTC (Jhapa) in sudden death in the inaugural match of the 21st Budha Subba Red Bull Gold Cup Tournament at Dharan Stadium, Dharan-16, on Monday morning, February 11, 2019.
With the win, Sankata Club has entered the semi-finals of the tournament. Though both the teams had scored a goal each in the first shootout, Mechi Netralaya’s Dilen Loktam failed to score against the mighty goalie Raja Babu Thapa of Sankata. Thapa also won the man-of-the-match to win Rs 15,000.
Cedric Aba score was a decider for Sankata to win the match while Sankata’s Amit Tamang and Mechi Netralaya’s Pujan Uparkoti had netted in their first attempts.
The match was forced to sudden death for Monday morning after the match ended 2-2 draw in the regulation time and 5-5 in sudden death on Sunday, inaugural day of the tournament.
