National Planning Commission of Nepal (NPC) Vice-president Yubraj Khatiwada said that equitable distribution of renewable and non-renewable resources is key for sustainable development.
Inaugurating the 6th Annual International Conference 2016 of Research Society of Nepal (ORSN) held at Chaudhary Group Institute of Management (CGIM) in Kathmandu on Monday, February 1, 2016, Khatiwada stated ‘’governments role is in decision making for sustainable development is squeezing and it is rapidly increasing in private sector. Thus, Corporate and organizational decision making is critical for sustainable development and operational research tools can increase the efficiency in decision making”.
He further expressed the willingness to work with universities and research centers citing the research in universities in Nepal is weak.
The keynote speaker Prof. Dr. Kirit S. Parikh, a former member of planning commission of India highlighted the need for designing policies that can be implemented.
He urged Nepal and India to work mutually in producing energy suggesting Nepal for focusing on hydro power and India on Solar energy.
He claimed that resources and environment should be managed well for sustainable development. He further added “we should focus and encourage on renewable sources of the energy”.
President of ORSN Prof. Dr. Sunity Shrestha, Member of National planning Commission of Nepal Prof. Dr. Geeta Bhakta Joshi and Deputy General Manager of CG Er. Mithlesh Kumar Jha highlighted the importance of operations research for sustainable development.
The event is the annual program of ORSN, jointly organised by CGIM. The program is being held on 1st and 2nd February at CGIM premises where more than 35 national and international research papers including from China, India, Canada and Thailand will be presented.
