Nepal Police Club (NPC) has become the second team to enter the semi-finals of the 21st Budha Subba Red Bull Gold Cup Tournament on Monday, February 11, 2019.
In the match held at Dharan Stadium, Dharan-16 today, Police Club beat Sahara Club, Pokhara, in sudden death to enter the semis. Bharat Shah scored for Police to make it to the next level as Anjan Devekoa failed to score for Sahara.
This is the first time in the history of Budha Subba Gold Cup that two clubs have advanced to the semi-finals through sudden death on the same day as Sankata Club (KTM) is another club that made it to the semis berth defeating Mechi Netralaya KFTC (Jhapa) in sudden death earlier today.
The match was forced for sudden death after 1-1 draw in the regulation time and 3-3 draw from five each attempts in tie-breaker. Police had led the match in the 33rd minute through a score from Nir Kumar Rai while Biswo Adhikari of Sahara leveled the match in the 39th minute through a penalty in regular time.
In tie-breaker, Police’s Ajit Bhandari, Debendra Tamang and Suman Subedi scored a goal each while Sumit Lama and Hari Kathayet could not find the net against the Sahara’s goalkeeper Lucky Kumar Karki. Similarly, Sahara’s Biswo Adhikari, Binod Gurung and Janak Karki converted their attempts into a goal while Gobinda Thapa and Ramesh Magar missed their luck.
Nir Kumar of Police was the man of the match to receive cash prize of Rs 15,000 in today’s match.
Hosts Dharan Football Club will take on Dalhousie Athletic (Kolkata) in the third match of the Gold Cup on Tuesday.
