New Diamond Academy has lifted the title of the 4th APF IGP National Open Women’s Volleyball Tournament on Thursday, February 2, 2017.
In the final match held at APF Volleyball Court in Halchowk, Kathmandu, New Diamond defeated host Armed Police Force 3-2 to clinch the title.
In the competitive match, winner New Diamond had lost its first set by 15-25. It made a comeback with 25-23 in the second set and also won third by 25-16 over APF.
Former title holder APF proved powerful in the fourth set as it won with 25-16. Then the match was forced for decisive fifth set. In the final set, New Diamond managed to register 15-12 win to snatch the title.
New Diamond coach Kumar Rai was very happy to see his team winning the title. He said the team gave magnificent performance in the tournament.
“The team was successful to clinch the title as it gave very well performance against APF’s powerful spike and block.”
APF’s coach Prakash Thapaliya said that the main reason behind their defeat was their weak receive and defense. “We also failed in counter attack.”
New Diamond’s Prativa Mali was adjudged the beat player of the tournament along with woman of the match in final. Mali won a scooter.
Similarly, APF’s Saraswoti Chaudhary was declared beat spike, Nebika Chaudhary best block and Binita Budhathoki best center while New Diamond’s Kripa Adhikari best serve and Salina Shrestha best defense. Kumar Rai won the best coach award. All these best performers received Rs 5,000 each.
With the title, New Diamond won the cash prize of Rs 250,000 while runner-up APF received Rs 125,000 and Western Region beat Nepal Police to finish third place cash prize Rs 50,000.
