Nepal ended the title drought in football after securing 3-0 victory against Bahrain U-23 in the final of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup. Bimal Gharti Magar, Bishal Rai and Nawayug Shrestha scored a goal each for Nepal to end 23-year title drought.
Nepal has last won the gold in 1993 at the South Asian Games held in Bangladesh. This is the third international title as it had won the international title in football in 1984 at the first SAFF Games.
With the title, Nepal also awarded with US$ 50,000. The team also received heroic welcome as they land international airport on Saturday after the successful tournament.
Meanwhile, All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) also announced cash reward of Rs 500,000 each to 20 players, the coaches and the team doctor. Similarly, the National Sports Council (NSC) will also felicitate the team members with Rs 200,000 each.
