Nepal had won 12 gold medals along with eight silver and 15 bronze medals at the 1st India TIA Open International Taekwondo Championship held in Kolkata, India from December 28 to January, 2017.
The five-day tournament also recognised Nepali Coach Roshan Khan as Beast Coach during the event.
Dhan Bahadur Darai (80kg), Gokul Adhikari (73kg) and Shisir Shrestha (54kg) won gold medals in men’s fight section. Similarly, Rohit Giri (29kg) won gold medals in both fight and poomsae categories. Pratik Pathank and Rejin Rimal also won gold in poomsae.
On the other hand, Nita Gurung (56kg) won gold in the fight and also in poomsae. Parbati Gurung claimed gold in 53kg category, Sushmita Thapa in 49kg and Dikshya Karki in 54kg.
In men’s category, Shisir Shrestha won silver while Mohamad Kalimaullah claimed same medals in fight and poomsae while Rubina Ghale won the medal in poomsae while Asmita Magar and Nikki Pun each won silver medals in poomsae and fight from women’s category.
During the tournament, Ranjit Chaudhary, Dipendra Nepali, Mohamad Umar Khan, Upesh Yadav and Sabin Majakoti won bronze medal each while Aswin Thapa also won silver in fight and Chandra Bahadur Magar won in fight and poomsae.
Altogether, 43 players have participated in the tournament under the leadership of head coach Roshan Khan, coach Bhuvan Dhakal and Pradip Dangol. Nepal along with Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia and Bangladesh had competed in the tournament.
