Nepal has defeated Hong Kong by seven wickets in its last Group stage match of the ACC Emerging Nations Cup held at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium Academy Ground, Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh on Thursday, March 30, 2017.With the win, Nepal finished third in the group behind U-23 teams of Test-playing nations host Bangladesh and Pakistan. With the two consecutive defeats, Nepal was already out of the tournament. It had lost to Pakistan by six wickets and Bangladesh by 83 runs.
After invited to bat first, Hong Kong had posted a target of 215 runs in allotted 50 overs losing all its wickets. Anshuman Rath was the highest scorer with a half-century of 51 runs, followed by Cameron McAuslan 43 runs, Waqas Khan 30 runs, Shahid Wasif 22 runs, Ehsan Khan 18 runs and Wajid Shah 16 runs.
Avinash Karn had claimed three wickets while Malla, Bhuwan Karki and Sushan Bhari grabbed two wickets each.
In return, Nepal chased down the target in 44.2 overs making 220 runs with the loss of three wickets.
Nepali three batsmen – Captain Gyanendra Malla, Vice-Captain Sharad Vesawkar and Dipendra Sing Airee made half-centuries each. Malla who was also announced the man-of-the-match contributed 70 runs off 82 balls while Airee and Veswawkar scored 60 runs off 83 balls and 55 runs off 51 balls, respectively. Jhatavedh Subramanyan had taken two wickets for Hong Kong.
