Nepal National Women’s Football Team has achieved historical victory against India Women’s Team after 2-1 win in its second match of the ongoing Hero Women’s Gold Cup Football Tournament at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India, on Monday, February 11, 2019.
This is the first ever win for Nepalis Women Football Team over India in the international football. Sabitra Bhandari scored a brace in the 5th and 7th minute for Nepal to historical victory. Ratanabala Devi scored a consolation for India in 84th minute.
With the win, Nepal’s chance to the next level remains alive. Now, Nepal has to beat Iran in its next match and wait for the match between Myanmar and India for its fate. Myanmar should at least play draw or win the match against India to set final berth with Nepal.
Nepal is at the second spot with 3 points in the score chart after defeating India while Myanmar is at the top of the chart with 6 points after two wins (Nepal 3-0 and Iran 2-0) and India in the third place with 3 points as it had defeated Iran 1-0 in its first match.
Nepal is competing with three nations – Myanmar, Iran and host India – in head-to-head women’s football.
Nepal is ranked at 108th spot in FIFA Ranking, lowest ranked team in the tournament. Myanmar is the highest ranked nation with a FIFA Ranking at 44th place, while Iran is ranked at 60th and India at 62nd position.
