The presidential election has started at 2pm in the Legislature Parliament Hall in New Baneshwor on Wednesday, October 28, 2015.
CPN (UML) vice chairperson Bidhya Devi Bhandari and Nepali Congress (NC) leader Kul Bahadur Gurung have filed their candidacy for the post of new President of Nepal.
UCPN (Maoist) chairman Puspha Kamal Dahal along with Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal chairman Kamal Thapa and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Loktantrik chairman Bijay Kumar Gachhadar have proposed Bhandari’s name for the presidential election.
Similarly, NC’s general secretary Prakash Man Singh and general secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula have proposed Gurung’s name in the election of the head of the state.
The election of the head of the state is being held for the first time after the promulgation of the new constitution through the Constituent Assembly in the country.
Bhandari will register her name as the first female president of Nepal if she secures majority votes in the election that will end at 2pm, today.
