Nepal has lost to Myanmar in the inaugural match of Hero Women’s Gold Cup Football Tournament at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India, on Saturday, February 9, 2019.
Nepal had to bear 3-0 loss against Myanmar in its first match of the tournament as Khin Moe Wai scored two goals in the 44th minute and 77th minute while Win Thengi added another in the 54th minute for winner.
Similarly, host India beat Iran 1-0 in another match of the day. A lone goal from Anju Tamang in the 48th minute proved to be match winning score for India.
With the win, Myanmar is at the top of the score chart while India is in the second spot. Both have accumulated 3 points each after winning a match each.
Now, Nepal will take on host India on Monday, February 11, 2019. Nepal is competing with three nations – Myanmar, Iran and host India – in head-to-head women’s football.
Nepal is ranked at 108th spot in FIFA Ranking, lowest ranked team in the tournament. Myanmar is the highest ranked nation with a FIFA Ranking at 44th place, while Iran is ranked at 60th and India at 62nd position.
The tournament is as part of preparation for the upcoming SAFF Women’s Championship scheduled for March 12 to 22, 2019 in Biratnagar, Morang, Nepal, according to the Head Coach Hari Khadka.
