Sanjay Rai has won the gold medal at the 14th WMF Championship 2017 held in Bangkok, Thailand from March 11 to 18, 2017.
Rai defeated Spanish opponent in Men’s 48kg category final to clinch gold, according to Nepal National Muay Thai Association’s President Ganesh Lal Kakshapati.
This is the first time that Nepal won gold medal at the Championship, said Kakshapati. Nepal has been participating in the Championship from the 7th edition.
Similarly, Nepal also won a silver medal and two bronze medals at the Championship. Anisha Khadka won silver in Women’s 67kg while Deepak Tamang (Men’s 57kg) and Karuna Upreti (Women’s 54kg) won bronze medal each.
Altogether six players led by Coach Nilam Adhikari and Manager Umer Kumar Khadka had participated in the Championship. The Championship saw the participation of players from 40 countries.
