Nepal has defeated Papua New Guinea by six wickets in the play-off of the ICC World Cup Qualifiers 2018 held at Old Hararians, Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe on Thursday, March 15, 2018.
Forced to bat first after losing the toss, PNG was restricted just to 114 runs in 27.2 overs as Sandeep Lamichhane and Dipendra Singh Airee claimed four wickets each. Sompal Kami and Karan KC also took a wicket each for winner side.
Airee, the player of the match, was also the highest scorer with a half-century followed by Aarif Sheikh 26 runs and skipper Paras Khadka 20 runs to ease the target of 115 runs within 23 overs for the loss of four wickets.
For PNG, none of its batsmen could score more than 20 overs. CJA Amini was the highest scorer with 19 runs while J Kila scored 15 runs and S Bau 11 runs.
Despite winning the match, Nepal’s stepping into the ODI status is uncertain. It has to wait for the result of the match between Netherlands and Hong Kong that is underway. Netherlands has set the target of 175 runs for HK.
