Nepal Army Club (NAC) has lifted the title of the second edition of Hetauda International Football Gold Cup 2073 on Saturday, January 7, 2017.
The departmental team Army beat Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) 2-0 in the final match to clinch the title of the Hetauda Gold Cup. The match was held at the ground of the Institute of Forestry, Hetauda.
Army’s Bharat Khawas scored an opening goal utilizing the cross from Deepak Gurung in the 18th minute while Santosh Tamang doubled the tally in the 85th minute to secure 2-0 victory against the defending champion.
MMC was down to 10-man within the early 20 minute of the match as African recruit Olawale Oldadipo Afeez used foul words to the match referee. Afeez was yellow carded for fouling NAC’s second scorer Tamang.
With the win, Nepal Army bagged Rs 500,000 while runner-up MMC had to satisfy for Rs 300,000.
In the first edition of the Hetauda Gold Cup, MMC had clinched the title after 4-1 win over Army’s team in tie-breaker.
Suman Bhomjan Sports Foundation has been organising the tournament in memory of sports journalist Bhomjan, who was killed in the devastating April 25, 2015 earthquake.
