Nepal made a history in the international baseball after defeating Iraq by 13-3 in the 13th BFA Asia Asia Baseball Championship held in Islamabad, Pakistan on Sunday, February 26, 2017.
The victory was historic for Nepal in the international tournament. Nepal’s Captain Iswor Thapa pitched the complete game and got 19 strike-outs. Thapa is the ace pitcher of Nepal and used to play in Japan for two years.
Nepali batters got nine hits. Anil Pariyar, Jeewan Nath and Achit Karki got two hits each.
Nepal had lost to host Pakistan in the inaugural match on Saturday. A win of Pakistan against Iraq will book a ticket for Nepal to the next level.
The victory has put Nepal in strong position to advance to the semi-finals. If hosts Pakistan beat Iraq on Monday, Nepal will earn a place in the last four.
The 22-member baseball squad had left for Pakistan to participate in the Baseball Cup on Tuesday, February 21, 2017. The players comprise – Ishwor Thapa (Captain), Anil Pariyar, Rajesh basner, Khadka Singh Bista, Milan thapa, Prakash Bahadur Pujara, Mohamad Irshad Hussein, Padam Singh Pujara, Jit Bahadur Tamang, Achit Karki, Binod Koirala, Dinesh Singh Bhandari, Man Kumar Mai, Bimal Lamichhane, Jiban Nath and Subash Bohora.
The team is led by Pradip Kumar Khatri while manager Dipak Neupane, coach Ashok Bhattachan and Nayaran Gharti and umpire Abhisek Karki are also with the team.
Altogether, six nations are competing in the Cup. Nepal, Iraq and host Pakistan are in Group A while Iran, India and Sri Lanka are in Group B.
