Maldives defeated India 2-1 to clinch the title of the 12th SAFF Championship held at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh on Saturday, September 15, 2018.
Maldives had entered the final defeating Nepal 2-0 while India beat Pakistan 3-1 to make it to the final encounter. This is the second title for Maldives as it had won its first in 2008.
So far, India is as the top with seven titles of the championship as it had won in 1993, 1997, 1999, 2005, 2009, 2011 and 2015. Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka had also won the titles in 20o3, 2013 and 2008, respectively.
Nepal, Bhutan and Pakistan have not yet succeeded to clinch the prestigious title.
Nepal had won Bhutan 4-0 and Bangladesh 2-0 to make it to the semis berth as Group A winner.
