Kukur (Dog) Tihar, the second day of the Tihar festival, is being observed across the country on Saturday, October 29, 2016. The first day was Kak (Crow) Tihar.
On the occasion, Hindu people worshiped dogs offering special foods and garlands. The dog is revered as a faithful and loyal companion of humans.
According to a Hindu mythology, the dog is considered as the guard of Yamaraj, the lord of death. The Hindu epic Mahabharata tells that the dog has accompanied Ydhisthir on his journey to heaven alive.
