Nepal Judo Association has honoured Phupu Lhamu Khatri with Rs 25,000 amidst a function in Kathmandu on Tuesday, January 10, 2017.
National Sports Council (NSC) member-secretary Keshav Kumar Bista handed over the check to Khatri.
The association had felicitated Khatri as she had fought her opponent for the full four minutes in the first round of the women’s 63kg weight category in the Rio Olympics held at the Carioca Arena 2 of Rio de Janeiro in August 9.
Though Khatri lost her bout against Cuba’s Maricet Espinosa, she is the only Judo player who has played full time in Olympic so far. She is the fourth player to take part in Olympic.
Rishiram Pradhan, Ganga Bahadur Dongol and Debu Thapa had competed in the Olympic before Khatri. Thapa was also honoured with Rs 10,000. She was the coach.
