Region No. 7 (Janakpur) has defeated Region No. 1 (Biratnagar) by 14 runs in its second match to register second consecutive victory in the ongoing Senior Women’s National Cricket Tournament 2015 held at Institute of Engineering grounds in Pulchowk, on Friday, February 13, 2015.
Janakpur beat Region No. 3 (Kathmandu) by 50 runs in its first match on Wednesday.
Winner had scored 169 runs for the loss of seven wickets in allotted 40 over as Mamta Chaudhary made a half-century scoring 58 runs off 55 balls. Mamta also won Player-of-the-match.
Similarly, Sobha Aale contributed 42 runs off 99 balls and Saraswat Chaudhary 12 off 15 balls. Biratnagar’s Sangita Rai had grabbed three wickets and Rasmita Sharma took two wickets.
While chasing the target, Janakpur’s bowlers restricted Biratnagar just to 155 runs at 28.5 overs. Kajol Shrestha and Roma Thapa had scored 41 runs and 40 runs, respectively.
Shanti Chaudhary alone claimed four wickets while Mamta Chaudhary had taken three wickets for the wining team.
In another match of the day held at the TU Ground, Kirtipur, Nepalgunj thrashed Region No. 9 (Dhangadi) by 160 runs to register first win at the tournament.
In the first batting, Nepalgunj scored 202 runs for the loss of five wickets in total 40 overs. Two batters Trishna Singh and Sanju Chaudhary made a half-century each as they scored 60 runs and 51 runs, respectively.
Mamta Thapa had also contributed 20 runs and Rekha BC 16 runs for winner. Sita Khadka took two wickets for Dhangadi.
The target for Dhangadi proved to be huge. Dhangadi lost all its wickets at 13.5 overs for 42 runs. Bimala Bhatt and Bindu Rawal scored 10 runs each.
Trishna Singh and Kamala Bhudhathoki had taken three wickets each for Nepalgunj. Trishna who was also the highest scorer in today’s match was declared Player-of-the-match.
In the next matches scheduled to Saturday, Region No. 6 (Baitadi) will take on Region No. 2 (Birgunj) at TU Ground while Region No. 4 (Bhairahawa) and Region No. 8 (Pokhara) will fight in another match at Institute of Engineering Ground.
