The government has decided to honour with cash prize of Rs 15.6 million to the winners of various games including - cricket, football, and bodybuilding - at the international tournaments.
The meeting of Council of Ministers on February 8, 2019, took such decision of felicitating players, coaches and other officials, according to government spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Banskota.
As per the decision of cabinet, the government will felicitate the cricketers with cash reward of Rs 500,000 each, coach with Rs 300,000 and officials with Rs 200,000 each. The National Cricket Team had won three T20 and three ODI Series against UAE, recently.
Similarly, the government will provide remaining prize of Rs 300,000 each to the members of the U-23 National Football Team for their achievement at the12th South Asian Games in 2016. Though the government had announced Rs 500,000 each to the team members, they got only Rs 200,000 with an assurance to provide the remaining sometime later. The team had won gold medal defeating India.
Likewise, International medalist in bodybuilding Maheshwor Maharjan will also get Rs 500,000 as honor from the government for creating history in the international championship. Maharjan had won gold medal in Men’s 75kg weight category at the 10th World Bodybuilding and Physiques Sports Championship held in Chiang Mai, Thailand in December 11 to17, 2018.
