Junko Tabei, the first woman to climb Mount Everest, has died at age 77, according to Japanese media.
Tabei who was suffering from cancer since last four years died while undergoing treatment in Kawagoe City on Thursday.
Tabei born in September 22, 1939, had scaled world’s highest peak in 1975. She was also the first women to conquer the – seven summits – the highest peaks of the seven continents.
Japanese climber had scaled the highest peak at the age of 35 on May 16, 1975. She was accompanied by Sherpa guide, Ang Tshering. Similarly, Tabei had also climbed the mountains in over 60 countries.
