CPN (UML) vice-president Bidhya Bhandari has been elected the second president of Nepal on Wednesday, October 28, 2015.
Bhandari also became the first female president of Nepal after securing 327 out of 549 votes cast at the Presidential Election held at Legislature Parliament Hall in New Baneshwor, today.
Bhandari overcame Nepali Congress (NC) Kul Bahadur Gurung. Gurung received 214 votes in the head of the state election.
Altogether, 549 out of 597 lawmakers casted their votes at the Presidential Election that held from 11am to 2pm.
Bhandari is the second president of Nepal after Dr Ram Baran Yadav. Bhandari is also the first female president of the country after the promulgation of the new constitution through the Counstituent Assembly.
Bhandari was born to Ram Bahadur Pandey and Mithila Pandey on Asar 5, 2018BS at Manebhanjyang village of Bhojpur.
Bhandari completed her basic education from Bhereshwor Primary School and Bidyodoya School in the district. Similarly, she studies her intermediate in BHojpur Campus and Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Mahendra Morang College of Biratnagar.
Bhandari began her political career from her college back in 2035BS. She was involved in CPN-ML’s Youth League. She became the representative of All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU) in 2037BS.
Bhandari is a wife of communist leader last Madan Bhandari. They were married in 2039BS. However, Madan died in a mysterious road accident in 2050BS. She has also two daughters.
Bhandari became the vice-president of the party through the eight conventions that was held in Butwal in 2064BS.
Bhandari who also served the Defense Ministry in 2067BS, had worked to assure at least 33 percent representative in each government agencies.
