Nepal Army’s Dinesh Shrestha has registered a new national record in senior men’s 94kg clean and jerk at the 4th Grand Prix Qualifying National Weightlifting Championship held in Kathmandu on Monday, March 30, 2015.
Dinesh has broken the record of Ghyan Bahadur Shrestha who had lifted 145kg by lifting 156kg in clean and jerk. Ghyan had made a record in the 11th South Asian Games’ selection round.
Dinesh also won gold medal in snatch lifting 110kg with the total 256kg.
In the inaugural day, Tara Devi Pun had bettered her national record in snatch, clean and jerk. Pun lifted 162kg - 68kg in snatch and 94kg in clean and jerk to break the previous record of 160kg - 64kg in snatch and 93 in clean and jerk in women’s 75kg.
Similarly, Bara’s Mohamad Hussain won the title in junior men’s 94kg. Hussain lifted 72kg in snatch and 90kg in clean and jerk to total 162kg.
In the senior men’s 105kg, Nepal Army’s Gagan Singh Bali lifted 243kg – 108kg in snatch and 135kg in clean and jerk.
Rajiv Maharjan lifted 159kg – 72kg in snatch and 87kg in clean and jerk in the same junior section.
Similarly, Pukar Gurung lifted 225kg – 105 in snatch and 120 in clean and jerk – in the senior above-105kg category.
