Nepal Army is scheduled to organise Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Open Marathon Tournament in Kathmandu on February 11, 2017.
The Open Marathon will feature 42.195km Open Men Marathon, 21km Men and Women Half marathon, 10km Race for Foreigners and Army Officers and 5km Walkathon, said Sports Department Chief Lt Col Ram Kaji Rana Magar.
Altogether, 3,330 runners will compete in different races, according to Magar. The Open Marathon will kick off from Sainik Manch Tudikhel and end at the same point.
The routes include - Tripurewor, Maitighar, Baneswor, Koteswor, Jagati, Kamalbinayek, Madyapur Thimi, Jadibuti, Tinkune, Airport, Chabahil, Sukedhara, Narayan Gopal Chowk, Maharajgunj, Lajimpat, Rani Pokhari, Sahitgate and end at the same starting point.
The winner will bag Rs 100,000 along with a Yamaha motorbike while runner-up will receive Rs 50,000, third place Rs 25,000, fourth 15,000, fifth 7,000, sixth 5,000 and seventh 3,000.
Similarly, 21km Men’s Half Marathon winner will get Rs 25,000, second 15,000 and third place 10,000 while Women’s winner of the same category will receive a scooter and cash prize of Rs 25,000.
The estimated cost to organise the event is Rs 2.8 million, said Magar.
