Armed Police Force (APF) has defeated hosts Sahara Club, Pokhara, in sudden death in an inaugural match of the 17th Aaha! Rara Gold Cup 2075 held at Pokhara Stadium, Kaski, on Thursday, February 21, 2019.
APF has also advanced to the quarter-finals of the Gold Cup after 5-4 victory in sudden death as the match was 1-1 draw in the regulation and additional time. Both the teams have played 4-4 draw even in the penalty-shootout.
In sudden death, Buddhiman Rai had scored for APF while Anjan Devkota missed for Sahara. Rai was also declared man of the match to receive Rs 5,000.
Earlier in the regular time frame, Binod Gurung had led the match in the 17th minute while APF levelled the match within a minute through Ashish Lama.
The winner of the tournament will bag Rs 801,000 while runners-up team will get Rs 4, 01,000. Similarly, the best player of the tournament will get a scooter while five best categories award will have prize money of Rs 15,000 each. The final ceremony of the Gold Cup is set for March 2, 2019.
Altogether, 10 teams including MMC, TAC, APF, NPC, Dharan FC, India’s United Sikkim, TSC, host Sahara, Dauphins (Cameroon) and Himalayan Sherpa Club are competing in the tournament.
