The main aim of the Marathon is to revive lost tourism of Nepal that will kick off at the start of a new tourist season in Autumn, said the organiser Himalaya Expedition Nepal (HEN) amidst a press conference in capital on Tuesday, September 22, 2015.
The race starts from expeditionary Everest Base Camp (5364 meter), near the Khumbu Glacier and ends at Namche Bazaar (3446 meter), the capital town of Sherpas covering a distance of 42.195 km.
This marathon will be a big publicity campaign for the International Tourism Market for the promotion and revival of Nepalis Tourism, said HEN.
Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon was first conducted on May 19, 2003 to commemorate and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first successful ascent of Mt Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Edmund Hillary during in 1953.
Usually held on May 29th every year, we have scheduled this marathon for October 5 because of number of incidents, said Event Manager Shikhar Pandey.
